Investment Approach

The MCG investment approach  begins by determining the allocation of a client’s portfolio between three distinct investment categories – liquid investments, conviction investments, and the absolute return portfolio. We collaborate with each client to customize the allocation between each of these categories.  Individual investments are then selected within each category, based on our analyses of which investments are best suited to achieve their targeted rates of risk and return in the prevailing market conditions.

Liquid Investments

These investments are selected to provide liquidity for ongoing cash requirements, reduce the overall portfolio risk return profile, or to act as a buffer to stage investment of clients’ funds into growth assets.

Conviction Investments

Investments are selected based on their potential high rates of return. MCG keeps its clients informed about market developments and provides research and recommendations as needed. Clients maintain direct control and can be actively involved in making investment decisions.

Absolute Return Portfolio (MCG Growth Fund)

The Absolute Return Portfolio is generally the cornerstone of a client’s total portfolio; it is the investment which reflects the underlying investment philosophy/objective of MCG Wealth. That is, to preserve our client’s capital during difficult market conditions and to generate attractive absolute returns over the medium to long term.  This is achieved through assembling a diversified portfolio of assets and strategies that each have good individual risk return profiles and have a low correlation with one another, particularly during periods of market stress. By investing through an institutional structure, our clients are able to invest with the highest quality managers that may otherwise not be available to them. In addition, we are generally able to achieve favourable pricing and terms.
